SELF-EMPLOYMENT
Self-employment: invoice without a company and receive salary.
Self-employment lets you accept assignments without operating a company. You find the client and perform the work, while WorkNode acts as employer for the approved assignment and administers invoicing, salary, preliminary tax, and employer contributions.
01 · HOW IT WORKS
How self-employment works in practice
WorkNode needs to be involved before compensation is agreed, and the client must know that WorkNode is the contracting and invoicing party.
- 01
Connect the assignment to WorkNode
Ensure WorkNode can act as contracting party and invoice the assignment before agreeing compensation.
- 02
Agree with the client
Agree the work, price, schedule, and important terms. The client must know WorkNode will invoice.
- 03
Register the assignment
Provide client and assignment details. Some work requires supporting documents, qualifications, or approval before it starts.
- 04
Perform the assignment
Once the setup is approved, perform the work under the client agreement.
- 05
WorkNode invoices the client
Submit and check the invoice basis. WorkNode then sends the invoice.
- 06
You receive salary
After client payment, WorkNode administers fees, employer contributions, and preliminary tax before paying salary.
02 · WHEN DOES IT FIT?
When is self-employment suitable?
- you need to send a first or occasional invoice
- you earn side income from assignments
- you want to test freelancing before starting a company
- you want to avoid ongoing bookkeeping for the assignment
- you work regularly on assignments but prefer compensation as salary
03 · SELF-EMPLOYMENT OR A COMPANY?
When might your own company be a better fit?
Your own company may suit you better when you want full control over business finances, have recurring costs, make larger investments, employ staff, or build assets in the business.
The difference is not only the fee. Self-employment pays for invoicing and employer administration. Your own company gives greater control but also greater responsibility for bookkeeping, VAT, and tax.

How do F-tax, tax, and VAT work?
As a self-employed worker with WorkNode, you receive salary and do not need your own F-tax registration for the assignment. WorkNode has F-tax registration, invoices the client, and administers preliminary withholding and employer contributions.
VAT is added based on the service and applicable VAT rules. Preliminary tax depends on your tax details and other individual circumstances.
05 · COST
What does self-employment cost?
WorkNode FLEX costs 3.95% per invoice with no fixed monthly fee. WorkNode PRO costs SEK 995 per month and has no percentage fee on the invoice amount under the current plan.
In addition to WorkNode’s fee, employer contributions and preliminary tax affect the amount available as salary.
06 · RESPONSIBILITY AND PROTECTION
Who is responsible for what?
Self-employment does not automatically place every responsibility on one party. The allocation depends on the assignment and applicable terms.
WorkNode
WorkNode acts as employer for the approved assignment and administers invoicing, salary, tax withholding, and employer contributions under the applicable terms.
You
You are responsible for accurate assignment information, delivering the agreed work, and holding required qualifications, permits, and documents.
The client
The client orders the work and remains responsible for its obligations, including applicable supervision and work-environment duties.
Insurance cover and exact responsibilities can vary depending on the assignment. Check the terms before work begins if anything is unclear.
Three things to know before you start
WorkNode must be connected before the compensation agreement
Agree with WorkNode which assignments the company will be the contracting party for before you agree compensation with the client.
The assignment must be manageable
Not all assignments can be approved automatically. Some work may require special permits, qualifications or documentation.
Check the insurance
Insurance cover may depend on the type of assignment and applicable terms. Check it before work begins if you are unsure.
