Chronicle: The new labor market requires new rules
There is talk of ageism, skills shortages, labor migration and difficulties in finding the right talent. Business leaders and HR managers describe a reality where finding, attracting and retaining the right people has become increasingly complex.
But my perspective is clear: we don't have a skills crisis - we have a systems crisis.
The rules of the labor market are written for an industrial logic that no longer exists. Our labor laws, our collective agreements and our social security systems are still based on people being employed, preferably full-time in a workplace. But the reality of the new age labor market is increasingly different.
